Family Entertainment Tips on a Budget | How To Manage Money Tips

Posted by, Money Tips Staff

Just because your family is on a tight budget doesn?t mean that all of you have to miss out on fun times together.? And even if you aren?t feeling the pain of an economy that is still in some financial jeopardy, you can consider saving money now to pay for bigger, pricier family adventures in the future.? But for now, cut back on some entertainment expenses without sacrificing any of your good times by following a few of these handy tips:

Movie time.? Going to the movies grows increasingly cost prohibitive, even if you?re attending less expensive matinees.? A Netflix subscription is only a few bucks a month and is worth it if you and your family watch a lot of movies.? If movie time in your household is a special occasion, check out the number of Red Boxes that have sprung up in most communities:? they make renting movies quick, efficient, and inexpensive.? You can also check out the local library.? They usually have movies you can check out for free.? Buy a bag of popcorn and some snacks and you?re set for a fun night together.

Game night.? Invest in a few board and card games.? If you buy them one at a time they don?t cost that much (usually around twenty dollars), and with a few snacks and some soda, you?ve got yourself an evening?s worth of inexpensive entertainment, especially when you consider that you can use them again and again.? Cranium and Pictionary are family favorites that allow everyone to flex their brain muscles and their creativity.? Uno and Yahtzee teach your children about strategizing and how to manage numbers.? And if you?re considering the internet, you might look into online bingo to pass the night.

Free day.? Many times museums and zoos will offer free or discounted rates for families at certain times of the year, or you can purchase a yearlong family pass so you can go again and again.? Zoos are especially exciting for children, and since it?s nearly impossible to see and do everything in one day, a family pass allows you to linger in certain parts for longer times and to explore as much as you want.

Eating out.? Eating at a restaurant can be a lovely reprieve, especially if you feel that you and your family have fallen into the same old routine.? But dining out can also be incredibly cost prohibitive.? Instead of dinner, go out for lunch.? The menu is usually the same and the portions are not much smaller, but the prices will be.? Order water to drink ? it cuts out a huge chunk of your bill and is healthier than soda.

Day in the park.? Plan to buy your family some ice cream then spend the afternoon hanging out in a local park or beach.? You might consider having a picnic ? if you buy and prepare the food yourself, it will be far less expensive.? Use the day to soak up the sunshine.? You might even consider having everyone fly a kite!
